With the mission of providing quality music instruction and attaining the highest level of artistic excellence in choral performance, our Cantaré choir offers an exciting and unparalleled experience for singers to learn diverse choral repertoire while performing at Whites Chapel and in the community.
Cantaré performs a wide variety of musical styles (from Broadway, Pop, Classical, and Contemporary Christian) and in many different venues (from Six Flags and ballparks to classical concert venues. Cantare performs at the Whites Chapel Christmas Music Concert each year which is seen by thousands of people. Large commercial clients have requested our expertise in recording and performing live for special holiday and promotional events seen worldwide.
Regular rehearsals are from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings during the school year.
Weekly rehearsals are held in the Choir Rehearsal Hall at White's Chapel Methodist Church in Southlake, TX.
Additional or extended rehearsals may be required leading up to performance dates.
Director
Teresa Hughes is the Director of WC Cantare Youth Choir. She has gained over 34 years of experience as a choral director at the High School and Middle School levels in the Birdville ISD. She has also served as a Voice Instructor on the music faculty at Dallas Baptist University. Her choirs have consistently earned sweepstakes in UIL Choral & Sight-reading Competitions, and she has produced many singers that have made the Texas All-State Choir. She is an adjudicator for UIL Choral & Sight-reading Competitions, UIL Solo & Ensemble Competitions and Clinician for TCDA and TMEA workshops. In addition to her choral conducting, she has performed as a Soprano Soloist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Community Choruses, TMEA Honor Choir Concerts, All-Region Choirs and churches. Teresa and her husband have two married daughters, a beautiful grandbaby and a rescue dog.
Assistant Director
Kandice Whitehead has taught music and choir in Texas Public Schools for 11 years. She has taught award-winning choirs in elementary, middle, and high schools. She has a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Wayland Baptist University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Texas Tech University. In churches, she has directed pre-school, children’s and adult choirs. She loves singing in choir and with her husband and two sons.
